Hey pet parents! I’m trying to decide if pet insurance is a good investment. I keep hearing mixed opinions, but what I really want to know is if it has actually saved you money or been worth the monthly cost. If you have pet insurance, can you share your experience with how much you’ve paid in premiums versus how much you’ve received in reimbursements? Real numbers would be super helpful in making this decision!

I’ve been a Lemonade customer for three years now, and after having such a positive experience with my first dog, I didn’t hesitate to get my new puppy covered as well. What I appreciate is the convenience of their app for managing everything. Even though it’s all digital, I still get personalized email updates from the advocate handling my claim, which gives me peace of mind.

After a year with Trupanion insuring my two young and healthy cats, I was shocked when they increased my monthly premium by 52% with no clear explanation. Now, they want to charge me $152.89 every month for my two cats who haven’t had any health issues, and honestly, it feels like pure greed.

Instead of paying monthly premiums, I’ve chosen to put aside $75 every month into a dedicated high-yield savings account. My thinking is that over time, this fund will grow and be available for any unexpected vet bills. While insurance might cover a large chunk of a sudden major expense, I prefer having direct access to and control over my own funds.

With Trupanion, I specifically chose a plan with higher deductibles because I wanted coverage for significant, recurring health issues without lifetime limits. For me, it’s about having “disaster insurance” for those really expensive situations, and I’m willing to pay more out-of-pocket initially to ensure long-term coverage for chronic conditions.
